Now Hiring! Survey Technician

Location:  San Antonio, TX and/or McAllen, TX

Performs all duties necessary to download, process, and draw survey and Lidar data and performs specialized surveying duties under the supervision of a Registered Land Surveyor or licensed Professional Engineer. Work may require some travel. Work may require contact with governmental and private entities. Employees at this level follow standard practices that do not require frequent supervision of details.

Duties:

  • Assists in conducting technical geodetic and satellite surveys, which require the use of special high-accuracy techniques for mapping projects and related engineering functions.
  • Assists in conducting trigonometric and conventional leveling surveys to determine elevations.
  • Assists in planning and scheduling surveying projects.
  • Assists in traversing horizontal and vertical control points between satellite points.
  • Determines coordinates and sets benchmarks or locates those set by previous surveys.
  • Learns techniques to obtain and process data collected from electronic survey equipment and satellite tracking systems.
  • Performs deed research.
  • Performs drafting and/or design work
  • Reads survey maps and construction plans.
  • Uses a variety of surveying software and related hardware.
  • Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.

Applicable surveying procedures, standards and instruments
Higher mathematics
The Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices
Performing design/drafting work and preparing plans
Reading and interpreting applicable plans, schematics, blueprints and maps
Preparing and maintaining records, files and reports
The use of personal computers and applicable programs, applications and systems
Maintaining a safe working relationship

Education Requirements:

High School Grad or Equivalent in general high school studies

Work Experience:

3 years in Surveying
(Experience can be satisfied by fulltime or prorated part-time equivalent)
No Supervisory Experience Required
Related College education or relevant technical training may be substituted for experience on year per year basis.
Licenses and Certifications
The following Licenses and/or Certifications are required for this job:
Valid Driver’s License

Other Conditions:

Must pass a drug test prior to employment.
Required to work some weekends and holidays.
Required to work hours other than 8 to 5.
Required to work under exposure to inclement weather conditions.
Required to wear personal protective equipment provided by employer and comply with all safety requirements.
Driver’s record check will be conducted by the Department. Satisfactory driving records are required for driving state or personal vehicles and motor driven equipment to conduct agency business.
Must attend work regularly and observe approved work hours.
